Terms of Clearance: OMB approves this study of the use of scales of stressful life events in black women of reproductive age, as amended by the correspondence of April 16, 1997. OMB extends the current approval by one year from the end of the contract, recognizing the difficulty the agency has had with its contractor. However, OMB emphasizes that CDC must make every effort to complete this study without any additional delay.

Abstract: High levels of exposure to stressful life experiences put women at increased risk for adverse reproductive outcomes, especially preterm delivery and very low birth weight. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reliability and validity of existing stressful life events instruments for use in black women of reproductive age. This study will include 130 black women who live in Atlanta; half of these women will be pregnant.
