This information
collection is approved for three years subject to the following
terms of clearance: 1. The letters sent out by the local centers
must state that the response is voluntary, and failure to respond
will not result in a loss of service or other penalty. 2. The
letters sent out by the local centers must state that the study is
funded, in part, by the Manufacturing Extension Partnership in the
Department of Commerce. 3. The letters sent out by the local
centers must clarify that this survey is being undertaken (1) to
evaluate how these programs benefit manufacturers, (2) to identify
the most valuable services provided, and (3) to assist in business
planning. 4. The instrument must include the following statement:
"No agency may conduct, and no person is required to respond to, an
information collection that does not display a valid OMB control
number. The OMB control number is 0693-0021."

The goal of the MEP program is to
improve the global competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing
establishments. A variety of services are provided by NIST's over
70 MEP centers to manufacturers across the country. This
collection, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau,
measures the impacts of of those services on the Nation's
manufacturer.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies

1320.8(b)(3).
