This information
collection is approved through 5-2000 under the following
conditions: ACF will add instructions to encourage States to use
the Section 8 Comment option to provide feedback on the new data
required "to the extent practicable" in 106 (d) of CAPTA. This will
enable ACF to better analyze the results and understand the
capability of States to report this data. Upon resubmission, ACF
will report on these results and consider making necessary
recommendations for reauthorization.

The Child Abuse Prevention and
Treatment Act (42 U.S.C. 5101 et seq., as amended by Public Law
104-235, requires that State agencies receiving the State child
abuse & neglect grant annually provide "to the maximum extent
practicable" an annual data report Data elements include the number
of children reported for child abuse and neglect; the number of
children for whom maltreatment was substantiated, unsubstantiated,
or determined to be false; the number of deaths resulting from
child abuse or neglect; the number of children who receive
services; agency response times; and the number of workers
responsible for child protective, etc.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
