Manufacturers of passenger vehicle lines may petition the agency for an exemption from part 541 requirements, if a line of vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft device as standard equipment and meets the agency's criteria. The anti-theft device must be determined to be as effective in deterring/reducing thefts as part 541.
