NHTSA is amending its regulation
pertaining to chapter 301 of title 49 that requires motor vehicle
and motor vehicle equipment manufacturers to include a schedule for
dealer notification in their defect and noncompliance reports. This
amendment also requires manufacturers to advise dealers of the
prohibition against selling defective or noncomplying vehicles in
dealer inventory until all outstanding recall work has been
completed.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
