The two sets of regulations 43 CFR 3802 and 3809 manage hard rock mineral exploration and development on the Public Lands and Federal interest in lands. 43 CFR Subpart 3802-Exploration and Mining, Wilderness Review Program establishes the two levels of activity by claimants or operators who want to conduct exploration or mining operations in area of public lands undergoing wilderness study. 43 CFR Subpart 3809-Surface Management.
