The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), amended in 1996, requires the Environmental Protecting Agency (EPA) to establish criteria for a monitoring program for unregulated contaminants and, by August 6, 1999, to publish a list of contaminants to be monitored. To conform to the amendments, EPA is proposing the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Regulation for Public Water Systems (UCMR) to substantially revise the current regulations for unregulated contaminant monitoring.
