This surveillance system monitors the prevalence and incidence of HIV infection among first time blood donors and repeat blood donors. Demographic information for infected donors, routinely collected at the time of donation, is compared to donors without HIV infection. This projec makes it possible to monitor trends in HIV transmission and to assist in the development of donor education programs.
