The Child Abuse Prevention and
Treament Act (42 U.S.C. 5101 et seq.) as amended, requires that
States that receive the CAPTA State Child Abuse and Neglect Grant"
to annually work with the Secretary to provide, to the maximum
extent practicable, a report" that includes the 12 data items
listed in the statute. The two components of the National Child
Abuse and Neglect Data system (NCANDS) are being updated in order
to address all items in the legislation and to be consistent with
each other. States will be able to use either component to meet the
legislative requirement.
