These proposed final regulations would
prevent the unnecessary and undue degradation of public lands by
operations authorized under the mining laws. They would establish
procedures and standards to ensure that operators and mining
claimants meet their responsibilities while conducting exploration,
mining, and reclamation work on public lands. The regulations cover
all operations authorized by the mining laws on public lands, where
the mineral interest is reserved to the United States.
