VS is responsible for administering
regulations intended to prevent the introduction of animal
diseases, such as classical swine fever into the US. These
regulations which govern the importation of animals and animal
products currently restrict the importation of pork from Mexico due
to the presence of classical swine fever in that country. However,
we allow the importation of pork from the Mexican States of Yucatan
and Sonora because we have determined that pork from these two
Mexican States pose a negligible risk of introducing classical
swine fever into the US.
