The information collected from the US principal parties in interest (USPPI) or the authorized agent of the USPPI or the foreign principal party in interest (FPPI) through the Shipper's Export Declaration Program or the Automated Export System Program is used to compile the official United States government statistics on US exports or for use to detect and prevent the export of high technology items or military goods to unauthorized destinations or end users. The statistics along with US import statistics are used to calculate the US trade balance, a leading economic indicator and part of the GDP compilation.
