Approved for three years. If employers begin to use PSDI, OSHA must submit a Change Worksheet Request (83-C) to OMB to account for the increase in burden. OSHA is also reviewing their mechanical press standard. Following the rule making process pursuant to changes in the standard OSHA must resubmit this package with the necessary revisions.

Paragraph (h) of 1910.217 regulates the use of presence-sensing devices ("PSDs") in mechanical power-press safety systems; a PSD (e.g., a photelectric field or curtain) automatically stops the stroke of a mechanical power press when the device detects an operator entering a danger zone near the press.
