The Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration is proposing to revise this information collection
due to a program change set forth in a final rule entitled,
"Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations: Hazardous Materials
Safety Permits," that will increase the population of motor
carriers required to complete the Motor Carrier Identification
Report - Application for a U.S. DOT Number (by adding 992
"intrastate" motor carriers to the total number of carriers engaged
in the transportation of hazardous materials because they must now
obtain a U.S. DOT number).
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
