Terms of Clearance: This information collection provision associated with the proposed rule on recordkeeping requirements for human food and cosmetics containing materials from cattle are not approved at this time. FDA will examine public comment in response to the NPRM and will describe in the preamble of the final rule how the agency has maximized the practical utility of the collection and minimized the burden. For any future submissions of this information collection, FDA shall indicate the submission as "new" and reference OMB comment number 0910-0552 (see OMB Form 83-I, items 1 and 2).

Abstract: This information collection requires that manufacturers and processors of products manufactured from, processed with, or that otherwise contains material from cattle, maintain records indicating that food or cosmetic has not been manufactured fro, processed with, or does not otherwise contain BSE risk materials. This requirement is necessary because once materials are separated from an animal we have no way of knowing: (1) the age of cattle materials such as brain or spinal cord, (2) whether the material was sourced from an animal that was inspected and passed for human.....
