Abstract: NEDSS is an initiative that promotes the use of data and information system standards to advance the development of efficient, integrated, and interoperable surveillance systems at federal, state and local levels. The collection of these disease data has been ongoing since 1961 via different data collection systems. CDC continues to work with the local and state reporters and state and territorial epidemiologists to improve the timeliness and completeness of reporting.
