implementing changes, where applicable, NEDSS data collections
should follow the health data and information technology standards
set forth in the area of biosurveillance by the American Health
Information Community and the Secretary of HHS.

NEDSS is an initiative that promotes
the use of data and information system standards to advance the
development of efficient, integrated, and interoperable
surveillance systems at federal, state and local levels. The
collection of these disease data has been ongoing since 1961 via
different data collection systems. CDC continues to work with the
local and state reporters and state and territorial epidemiologists
to improve the timeliness and completeness of reporting.
Ultimately, the use of this information will assist in the planning
and prioritization of decreasing.....
