As part of its ongoing review of media
ownership rules, the Commission will conduct 10 economic studies.
Study 1 (the survey covered by this collection) is on "How People
Get News and Information." This study will survey consumers about
their use of media. It will identify consumers' primary, secondary,
and tertiary souces of news and information; whether these sources
change depending on the time of day or day of the week; and the
frequency with which consumers access these sources.
In January 2007, after
the new Congress was sworn in, Senators and House subcommittee
charis (Boxer, Markey, Kucinich) have publicly declared their
intention to hold hearings on the Commission's media ownerhip rules
in the next weeks and months - well before a routine PRA collection
would be approved. To be properly prepared for these hearings, the
Commission needs current information about American's interactions
with the use of various media.
