Physicians and other allied health
professionals play a vital role in diagnosing Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome (FAS) and in screening women of child bearing age for
alcohol consuption and drinking pregnancy. Maternal prenatal
alcohol exposure is one of the leading, preventable, causes of
birth defects and developmental disabilities. Children exposed to
alcohol exposure during fetal alcohol development can suffer a wide
array of disorders. This collection of information is an essential
step in developing appropriate information tools for physicians and
other health care professionals.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
