Dear Mr. Trescott:

Thank you for your August 27 e-mail message concerning the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) June 27, 2007, Notice of Request for Information (NRI) titled “Training Certification for Drivers of Longer Combination Vehicles (LCVs)” (72 Fed Reg 35537). You commented on the need for and propriety of such training.

The information collection for which FMCSA requested public comments concerns the paperwork burden associated with the Agency’s requirement that all individuals employing a driver to operate an LCV ensure that the individual has successfully completed LCV-Driver Training (49 CFR 380.107(a)).

In the NRI, the Agency asked for comments on four specific topics pertaining to the paperwork burden (page 35538). Your comments were directed to the training requirement itself, and not to any of the paperwork requirements. We appreciate your views concerning the training; however, at this time we are only considering comments regarding the paperwork burdens associated with the training.

Should you need additional information or assistance, please contact Thomas Yager, Chief, FMCSA Driver and Carrier Operations Division, at (202) 366-4235, or e-mail him at [email protected].

Sincerely yours,

Larry W. Minor
