Federally permitted fishing vessels in
the Northeast Region of the U.S. must display their vessel
identification numbers on three locations on the vessel at a
specified size. The requirement is needed to assist National Marine
Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Coast Guard in enforcing fishery
regulations.

The number of respondents,
federally permitted commercial fishing vessels, has been adjusted
upward by 500 respondents due to the number of permitted vessels
greater than or equal to 25 feet in overall length, currently
listed in the permit database. The total number of respondents and
responses is now estimated to be 6,000 per year, with corresponding
increases of 375 hours (from 4,125 to 4,500) and $5,000 (from
$50,500 to $60,000.
