Survey Questions for PubChem Users

Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 20 minutes per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information. An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden, to: NIH, Project Clearance Branch, 6705 Rockledge Drive, MSC 7974, Bethesda, MD 20892-7974, ATTN: PRA (0925-0476). Do not return the completed form to this address.

We are interested in answers based on your personal experiences with PubChem and the Molecular Libraries program, not those based on your perception of others’ experiences. Please answer as many questions as you choose. You do not have to respond to every question in order for your input to be considered.

A) Data Dissemination: Has data dissemination been effective?

  1. Do biologists actively use & value PubChem?

    1. Have you used PubChem?

Yes/No

    1. What is your level of satisfaction with PubChem?

Very Satisfied, Somewhat Satisfied, Somewhat Unsatisfied, Very Unsatisfied, NA

B) Network Customer Satisfaction: How well is the network serving the needs of the community?

  1. What capabilities would you like the network to offer that it does not?

  1. List up to three software tools or features you would like to see…

added to PubChem (3 one-line blanks)

removed from PubChem (3 one-line blanks)

  1. What is your level of satisfaction with the user-friendliness of PubChem?

Very Satisfied, Somewhat Satisfied, Somewhat Unsatisfied, Very Unsatisfied, NA

  1. Are there any data that you would like to see added to PubChem?

Yes. Specify.

No.

  1. Are there any data that you would like to see removed from PubChem?

Yes. Specify.

No.

  1. What area(s) of biology do you feel have not been adequately explored with small molecules (target classes or cellular phenotypes)?

(3 one-line blanks)

  1. What is the satisfaction level of assay & compound providers with the MLSCN/MLPCN?

  1. Are you familiar with MLSCN/MLPCN?

Yes/No

IF “NO” THEN SURVEY ENDS -- “If not, please visit the molecular libraries website for additional information: http://mli.nih.gov/mli/.”

IF “YES” THEN CONTINUE

  1. Have you participated in the MLSCN/MLPCN (i.e. running a center, submitting an assay, providing a compound, etc.)?

Yes/No

  1. What are the challenges for entering assays compounds into the ML?

  1. What are the core features of the MLSCN/MLPCN that must be maintained or enhanced?

Check all that apply:

    • public access to data

    • assay development funds

    • screening centers

    • medicinal chemistry

    • shared compound collection

    • others (text field)

  1. What other capabilities that you would like the network to offer that it does not have?

(3 one-line blanks)

  1. Do any of the following limit your involvement in the MLSCN/MLPCN program?

Check all that apply:

    • the intellectual property (IP) & data sharing policy

    • the requirement for assays to be HTS-ready or nearly ready

    • the amount of funding for reagent production/secondary screening

    • the amount of time & effort required to write an application for access to the MLSCN/MLPCN

    • the amount of time/compensation to prepare compounds and data files for submission to the compound repository

    • the amount of time from submission of compounds until results are obtained from screening center

For every item checked above, describe how it would limit your involvement and how you would recommend we address this challenge.

(Free Response)

C) Probes & Probe Reports: What is the usefulness of the probes produced?

  1. Do the probes produced reflect the state of the art in probe development/production?

  1. What is the current or potential application of MLSCN/MLPCN data and probes to your research?

(Free Response)

  1. What number of compounds/probes identified through the MLI have you requested?

(Number)

  1. Of the number that you have requested, how many probes did you advance…

in vitro? (Number)

in vivo? (Number)

as an imaging probe? (Number)

to patent status? (Number)

  1. How many of your publications have resulted from the MLSCN/MLPCN probes?

(Number)

  1. Regarding new grant proposals…

How many new grant proposals have you written based on data from the probes (e.g., for further optimization or use of the probes)?

(Number)

How many have been funded?

(Number)

  1. How many new licenses and patents have you applied for/been granted for work related to the probes?

Number of licenses applied for: (Number)

Number of licenses granted: (Number)

Number of patents applied for: (Number)

Number of patents granted: (Number)
