The Deaths in Custody data collections
will assess the nature of deaths in the criminal justice system.
The series provides the only national data for local jails, State
prisons, as well as deaths that occur in the process of arrrest by
state and local law enforcement agencies.

The death report form for law
enforcement is slightly longer than prison and jail facility
collections, because deaths in law enforcement custody encompass a
wider range of circumstances.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
