Reason for Emergency Clearance
USDA Food, Nutrition and
Consumer Services (FNCS) plans to launch the Innovations
for Healthy Kids Challenge
on March 8, 2010 to support President Obama’s Open Government
Initiative. The Initiative requires all federal agencies to take
specific steps to achieve key milestones in transparency,
participation, and collaboration. Through the Initiative, the Center
for Nutrition Policy and Promotion recently made available the USDA
Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services’ Nutrition (FNCS)
Dataset which provides information on total calories; calories from
“extras” (solid fats, added sugars, and alcohol); and
MyPyramid food groups of over 1,000 commonly eaten foods with
commonly used portion amounts.
The White House Office of Science Technology Policy (OSTP) and USDA Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services (FNCS) plans to launch the Innovations for Healthy Kids Challenge to support President Obama’s Open Government Initiative.
Due to the Initiative being launched March 8, 2010, the Agency did not have a chance to publish a 60day Federal Register Notice. For this reason, CNPP is requesting emergency approval by March 2, 2010 for this new information collection.
