The purpose of this Survey is to
better understand people's recreational boating experiences and to
improve the effectiveness of boating safety programs. The goal is
to capture essential information on the types and numbers of boats
used, boater characteristics, safety measures employed and types of
boating activities.
The primary difference between
the current collection and previous ones is the need to obtain
precise and detailed estimations of boaters exposure to hazards at
the national as well as state levels. These statistics will inform
the USCG Boating Safety Division about the frequency of use of each
recreational vessel as well as the length of time it was used
during each outing. This data is critical for risk assessment and
the required precision and level of details are the primary cause
for the increase in burden hours.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
