State library agencies are the
official agencies of each state charged by state law with the
extension and development of public library services throughout the
state. The purpose of this survey is to provide state and federal
policymakers with information about StLAs, including their
governance, allied operations, developmental services to libraries
and library systems, support of electronic information networks and
resources, number and types of outlets, and direct services to the
public.
Although the number of
respondents is the same, the average time it takes to complete the
survey has increased due to staffing changes at a number of the
state libraries over the last 3 years. A portion of the increase is
due to a recalculated average hourly wage for IMLS respondents from
$23.64 to $26.30.
