Abstract: SSA collects information to establish (1) the claimant's right to administrative review, (2) the severity of the claimant's alleged impairments and (3) the level of performance by the State Disability Determination Services (DDSs). SSA then uses the information collected by these regulations to determine entitlement and/or eligibility to disability insurance benefits (DIB) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and to enable appeals of these determinations. The respondents are applicants for Title II DIB or SSI.

Short Statement: his change stems from the addition of new information collections that will increase the public reporting burden. The burden hours are now only from 20 CFR Parts 404 and 416 of the regulations. The citations for 20 CFR Part 416 were not included in the 2009 clearance package, however the burdens previously shown included Supplemental Security Income claims (20 CFR Part 416) as well as Social Security claims (20 CFR Part 404), so no changes were needed to reflect the addition of 20 CFR Part 416 citations. The reduction in burden stems from the removal of the Disability Service Improvement (DSI) regulations in 20 CFR Part 405, (section 405.425 (b)). The increases in some of the collections were from two causes: (1) an increase in disability claims filed; and (2) an increased ability to capture the count of actions that involve requests from the public. As noted in three above, the two main claims processing computer systems in ODAR - CPMS and ARPS - have been undergoing continual upgrades and improvements, making data collection more accurate.
