Operators of United States (U.S.)
purse seine vessels fishing for tuna in the eastern Pacific Ocean
are required (50 CFR 300.22) to maintain logbooks of catch and
effort. Information requirements include the date, noon position,
and tonnage of fish on board by species. The data collected is used
to meet U.S. obligations to the Inter-American Tropical Tuna
Commission (IATTC) and for the management of tuna stocks.

USC 951-962 Name of Law: Tuna Conventions Act of 1950
Adjustments: The decrease of
responses by 150 and hours by 13, and the net decrease in annual
cost burden of $8, is due to a reduction in the estimated number of
part time vessels participating in the fishery that are required to
send in logbooks (from 15 vessels to 10 vessels), as well as an
increase in postage rates (from $0.41 to $0.44).
