The Healthcare Preparedness Activity works to promote collaboration among healthcare partners and to integrate healthcare preparedness into planning. Surge is defined as a marked increase in demand for resources such as personnel, space, and material. Healthcare providers manage routine surge and unusual surge. Managers are expected to manage surge while adhering to existing standards for quality and patient safety. Little is known about perceptions of primary care providers regarding their role in preparedness nad surge capacity. This project explores barriers and facilitators to coordination on surge response in 10 communities.
