Survey of Earned Doctorates
The Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) began in 1957–58 to collect data
continuously on the number and characteristics of individuals receiving research
doctoral degrees from all accredited U.S. institutions. The results of this annual
survey are used to assess characteristics and trends in doctorate education
and degrees.
Survey of R&D Expenditures at Universities and Colleges
Conducted annually since fiscal year (FY) 1972, the survey collects information
on R&D expenditures by academic field as well as by source of funds. The results
of the survey are primarily used to assess trends in R&D expenditures across the
fields of science and engineering (S&E).
Survey of State R&D Expenditures
Measures the extent of R&D activity performed and funded by each of the nation's
50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico (collectively, state). By employing
consistent, uniform definitions and collection techniques, the survey allows
