This study has evolved over time to cover fireprone communities in the Western United States. By engaging community residents in focus group discussions and having them complete a self-administered survey we seek to further understand the relationship between concern about wildland fire, knowledge about fire management, perception of fire management and alternatives, and an array of experience questions that help us better understand the impact of fire. By exploring perceptions of effectiveness of fire management and alternatives we hope to inform the understanding of community views of fire management and expectations for managing agencies, including through the lens of social trust.
