Owners of recreational boats involved in accidents that involve death, injuries requiring medical attention beyond first aid, or property damage in excess of $2,000. |

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard? |
The information must be provided to the Coast Guard by the state reporting authority within 30 days of the receipt of the casualty or accident report. |
How is the information submitted? |
The information is submitted electronically into the Coast Guard’s Boating Accident Report Database (BARD). |
What happens when complete information is received? |
This information is reviewed by the Coast Guard and used to publish the annual Boating Statistics Report and to develop boating safety interventions based on what is causing boating accidents. |
