SUBJECT: Amendment to OMB clearance 3145-0101, “Survey of Science and Engineering Research Facilities”
Attached for your records is the electronic submission of the amendment to the OMB clearance until 10/31/2014 of the following collection:
• 3145-0101, “Survey of Science and Engineering Research Facilities”
This amendment concerns a clarification of reporting by participants in the FY 2011 Survey of Science and Engineering Research Facilities. We will e-mail 200 of the 541 institutions that participated in the FY 2011 Facilities Survey. We will ask them to select from a list of campuses, schools, branches, etc. that are part of their larger institutional structure. Space will be provided for them to name any entities that were not in the provided list. They will be asked to clarify the specific entities for which they reported in the FY 2011 survey. (See attachment for an example.) The purpose of this subsequent question is to understand whether participants report uniformly for their locally administered campuses or whether they report for other campuses, which could create double-counting in the survey.
We will e-mail each institution a link to a Web form questionnaire. Based on the limited scope of the questions and the fact that participants are simply clarifying their prior, recent submission, we expect the burden to be approximately 15 to 20 minutes per institution, depending on the amount of research needed by the respondent to coordinate with others at their institution. This questionnaire will be pretested on 5 to 7 institutions.
