The information requested in this survey is needed to prepare the 2008 end of year report on acreage, production and prices received for tree fruit and sweet corn. Your response is voluntary and not required by law. However, cooperation from each grower is essential for accurate estimates of New England production. Please answer the questions for each commodity produced by this operation.

If necessary, interviewers will begin calling for sweet corn information in October and for tree fruit information in November. Please help us save the cost of an interview by promptly returning this questionnaire in the enclosed postage paid envelope.

Your individual report is confidential and used only with other reports for statistical purposes. Thanks for your cooperation.

Please make corrections to name, address and Zip Code, if necessary.

INSTRUCTIONS:

    • Total Number Bearing Age Trees/Acres 2008: Please report for all land operated, including land rented from others.

  • Total Lbs or Bushels Harvested 2008: Please to be sure to include any drops or culls taken from the orchard in the harvested production figure. Please do not include fruit purchased from off-site and resold.

  • Quantity of Mature Fruit NOT Harvested: Please give your best estimate of mature fruit left in the orchard this year because of weather conditions, insects or disease damage, labor shortages, low prices or other economic reasons.

    • Average Net weight per bushel: Please help us so that we can accurately convert bushels to pounds.

    • Total Lbs or Bushels Harvested 2007: If available from a previous report, 2007 bushels harvested are recorded. Please update if necessary.

  • Apple, Pear and Peach Disposition: Please give your best estimates on disposition of this year’s crops.

    • Prices Received: Please give your best estimate of fresh market and processing prices. Please circle whether your sales price is dollars per bushel or dollars per pound in the unit column. If your 2008 apple crop has not yet been sold, please give your best estimate of the average price you expect to receive across all sales.

    • Fresh Market Price - Total dollars received or average price per unit sold should reflect an F.O.B. shipping point price, or equivalent, for all grades and qualities sold for fresh market. The F.O.B. shipping point is a point of first sale. Equivalent points of first sale include farm, roadside, farmer’s market, grower auction, and U-pick sales. Sales at wholesale terminal markets must be adjusted for freight, brokerage, and commission charge paid by the grower.

    • Processing Price - Total dollars received or average price per unit sold should reflect the price received at the processing plant door.
