Each year, the NCGMP receives Federal funds to support geologic mapping efforts in its STATEMAP, and EDMAP components through competitive funding processes. The primary objective of the EDMAP component of the NCGMP is to train the next generation of geologic mappers. The primary objective of the STATEMAP component of the NCGMP is to establish the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States. All applications must be submitted through Grants.gov.

The change due to adjustment in agency estimate is based on our experience of administering this program and the outreach described in item 8 of the supporting statement. We are reporting a reduction in the number of EDMAP and STATEMAP applications received. We previously anticipated receiving 55 EDMAP applications annually. This number is reduced to 50. We also previously anticipated receiving 46 STATEMAP applications. This number is reduced to 45. Although we are reducing the anticipated number of applications we receive, based on our consultation and our own experience we are adjusting the estimated time to complete an application from 20 hours to 36 hours per respondent. The program change due to agency discretion occurred because we are now including the burden hours for completing the EDMAP and STATEMAP technical final reports which was not included in our previous submission to OMB. We estimate it will take approximately 20 hours for respondents to complete a final technical report.
