The National Emergency Family Registry and Locator System helps reunite families separated by a disaster
or emergency by:

●

Report a Missing Child
●
●

●

Allowing people to register by entering their names and location into the system.
Allowing people who have registered to give permission to up to seven (7) people to see the information they
have entered, including their current contact information and/or a personally created message.
Letting people search for messages left by displaced family or friends.

The system is activated only during a Presidentially declared disaster or emergency where people are
displaced.
While there are security measures in place, no system is 100 percent secure.
Use of the system is voluntary and at the user's own risk.
In order to reunite families, information entered into the system may be shared with other government and
non-governmental agencies, including law enforcement.
The National Emergency Family Registry and Locator System will not ask about anyone's citizenship status
or forward any information, unless requested by name, to the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs
Enforcement Division.

How Do I Register In NEFRLS?

Registration is easy and takes only 5 minutes.
To protect your privacy, the system will ask questions to verify your identity. Then, you will be asked to
provide your current contact information and a message, if you wish.
You may register as an individual or a family. We recommend, however, that all adults register separately.
You can identify up to seven (7) people to view your information and message.

Registering in the system does not qualify or register you for any type of local, state, or federal assistance.

How Do I Edit or Update My Information?

Click on the "Update My Registration" button located on the homepage.
If you created a username and password, enter them in the system. If not, you will be asked a series of
questions to verify your identity.

How Do I Search For My Family or Friends?

Click on the "Search for a Displaced Person" button located on the homepage.
If you are using the system for the first time, follow the steps to verify your identity. If you have a username
and password, enter them to skip the identity verification.
Enter the name and pre-disaster city and state of residence of the person you are searching for.
If they have registered in the system and identified you, you may see their current contact information and/or
personal message.
Reminder: Registering in this system is voluntary and the individual registering in the system is only able to
select up to seven (7) individuals with whom to share their information and/or messages. If you receive a "No
