Previous terms of clearance continue: CDC is required to submit each data collection request to OMB as a generic IC. In addition to the data collection instrument itself, supplemental materials for each generic IC should include a description of the goals of the study, study design, sampling approach, and data analysis plan. If the clearance is associated with an imminent public health concern, CDC should call OIRA to convey the urgency. CDC agrees that results of studies conducted under this generic will not yield generalizable data beyond the given EHS-NET site(s). Findings will not be generalized to retail establishments more broadly. Information collections submitted under this generic OMB clearance will state whether multi-lingual resources/materials will be used, and justification if none are used.

This is a request for reinstatement of this previously approved data collection. Environmental factors associated with foodborne illness include both food safety practices (e.g., inadequate cleaning practices) and the factors in the environment associated with those practices (e.g., worker and retail food establishment characteristics). To understand these factors, we need to collect data from those who prepare food (i.e., food workers) and from the environments in which the food is prepared (i.e., retail food establishment kitchens). Thus, data collection methods for this generic package include: 1) worker interviews/surveys, and 2) observation of kitchen environments. Both methods allow data collection on food safety practices and environmental factors associated with those practices.
US Code:
42 USC 301
Name of Law: Public Health Service Act
This is a reinstatement with changes which includes a reduction in burden and respondents due to reduction in data collection sites and previous over-estimation.
