Guavas: 2011 Production Up 46 Percent
GUAVAS: Production,
State of Hawaii, 1997 ‐ 2011
Utilized guava production in 2011 for the
State of Hawaii was assessed at 1.9 million
pounds, 46 percent greater than the utilized
production of 1.3 million pounds in 2010.
Acreage devoted to guava production
totaled 150 acres, unchanged from the
previous year, however, the acreage
harvested dropped by 4 percent to an
estimated total of 110 acres in 2011. The
average price received for guava for
processing was estimated at 17.0 cents per
pound in 2011, a slight increase from
16.9 cents per pound received in 2010. Farm
value of Hawaii’s guava in 2011 totaled
$323,000, 47 percent greater than the value
of $220,000 in 2010. While the weather
during the 2011 guava season was dry, it was
not as severe as in 2010, which explains the
steep rise in production while acreage
remained relatively similar.
