April 2013
Dear Maple Producers:
As president of the North American Maple Syrup Council and a producer who recognizes the
need for statistics that accurately represent our industry, I am asking you to complete and
return the enclosed questionnaire to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
The questionnaire is mailed directly to you as a producer because you are the best source of
information about the maple industry. The Maple Syrup inquiry is voluntary; however, a good
response is needed for an accurate measurement of this year’s production and last year’s
prices.
The North American Maple Syrup Council is working hard with officials of NASS to make
sure that the official estimating program for maple syrup remains intact. This survey is
conducted as a service to the maple syrup industry and our participation is needed to see
that it continues.
The national survey results will be available in the Crop Production report released from
Washington, D.C. at 12:00 p.m. on June 12, 2013. All reports are available on the Internet at
http://www.nass.usda.gov within minutes after the scheduled release time.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you in New Brunswick at our next annual meeting in
October.
Sincerely,
Cecile B. Pichette
President, NAMSC
