The NASA Office of Education STEM Challenges information collection is a redesign of the NASA Summer of Innovation pilot and serves as a sustainable model for STEM engagement. Along with a title change, the information collection strategy was revised to gather the minimum amount of information necessary to (1) evaluate the program for improvement opportunities, (2) collect outcome data to access the activity model's effectiveness in meeting objectives, and (3) eliminate parent surveys and teacher focus group surveys. The targeted respondents are middle school students and the activities are conducted when the students are 'out of school'. The information collection instruments include a baseline survey and a follow-up survey. The surveys will be used to gather data prior to and following the participating student's completion of STEM Challenge activities. The information collected will be used to access change in the key short-term outcome of the participating student's attitude toward science, technology, engineering, and math. The data will enable NASA to collect implementation and formative data to inform continuous program improvement.

Miscellaneous Actions
Burden decrease is a result of a deliberate change in the information collection strategy to include the following: (1) narrowing the pool of respondents to students in the 5th-8th grades only, (2) eliminating parent surveys, and (3) eliminating information collected via teacher focus groups.
