This standard requires employers to
develop a written respiratory protection program, provide medical
surveillance, fit test employees, obtain certificates of analysis
on cylinders, change sorbent beds and filters, inspect
emergency-use respirators, mark emergency-use respirator storage
compartments, and maintain accurate employee records for fit
testing and medical surveillance. OSHA is proposing to add two
modified PortaCount® quantitative fit-testing protocols to its
Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The proposed
protocols would apply to employers in general industry, shipyard
employment, and the construction industry.

The adjustment increase results
from an increase in the number of establishments and workers
covered by the Standard. The program change reduction results from
those employers choosing to administer the new quantitative
fit-testing protocols that take less time than existing fit-testing
protocols.
