Overview of Changes to Questionnaire as a Result of Testing

The following text provides an overview of the major changes that were made to the 2017 Census of Agriculture questionnaires since their initial submission in June of 2016.

• A100 – Long U.S. Form

• A200 – Short U.S. Form

A100 & A200 (note: not all sections are in A200)

Land Rented or Leased from Others for Cash:

1. Minor wording changes to #2.

Personal Characteristics:

1. Entire section moved earlier in questionnaire.

2. Changed some of the decisions in #3 (but there are still five decisions).

Hay and Forage Crops:

1. Removed the “Amount used or to be used on this operation for feed, etc.” question from #4, #5, #6, and #7.

Field Crops:

1. Added a bullet with instructions in #3.

2. Minor changes to the crop list below #3.

Nursery, Greenhouse, Floriculture, Sod, Mushrooms, Vegetable Seeds, and Propagation Materials:

1. Minor change to the instructions in #4.

Vegetables, Potatoes, and Melons:

1. Minor changes to the crop list below #4.

Fruit, Nuts, and Berries:

1. Minor changes to the crop list below #4.

Horses, Ponies, Mules, Burros, and Donkeys:

1. Changed name of section from “Equine”.

Food Marketing Practices:

1. Reworded (and reduced in size) the list of marketing venues in #2b.

Renewable Energy:

1. Removed the screening question on #1 (this was done to reduce the number of times #2 was skipped).

A200

Farm Labor:

1. Moved the section earlier in the questionnaire (this was a space-issue – there was no room for it where it originally was after the Internet question was added to the “Practices” section).

Practices:

1. Added a “wind rights” question to #1 (it is now #1b).

2. Added #4 (Internet access).  This question mistakenly left off of the version we previously submitted to OMB.
