The purpose of the cotton dust standard and its information collection requirements is to provide protection for employees from the adverse health effects associated with occupational exposure to cotton dust. Employers must monitor employee exposure, reduce employee exposure to within permissible exposure limits, provide employees with medical examinations and training, and establish and maintain employee exposure monitoring and medical records. OSHA is proposing to remove the requirements for employers to collect and record an employee’s social security number (SSN) on exposure monitoring and medical surveillance records. Time to document SSN in records is negligible and therefore, the Agency is not requesting changes to the burden hour or cost estimates in this ICR
