Abstract: As part of its fishery management responsibilities, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) collects information to account for discards of allocated species by fishing vessels in the groundfish catch share fishery. This collection supports the implementation of an electronic monitoring program in the groundfish fishery to provide vessel owners an option to use video cameras to meet the requirements of the catch share program for 100-percent observer coverage at sea. The collection supports permits for businesses to provide EM services to fishing vessels, and authorizations for vessel owners to use EM in place of human observers, and the collection of information on fishing activities to achieve the objectives of the monitoring program.
