The Refugee Biographic Data describes a refugee applicants personal characteristics and is needed to match the refugee with a sponsoring voluntary agency to ensure initial reception and placement in the U.S. under the United States Refugee Program. Biographic information is collected in a face-to-face interview of the applicant overseas. An employee of an Overseas Processing Entity, under contract with PRM, collects the information and enters it into the Worldwide Refugee Admissions Processing System(WRAPS).
As the President stated on February 16, 2017, “We're issuing a new executive action next week that will comprehensively protect our country, so we'll be going along the one path and hopefully winning that. At the same time, we will be issuing a new and very comprehensive order to protect our people, and that will be done some time next week, toward the beginning or middle at the latest part.” Based on this statement, as well as Executive Order 13769, which calls for a review of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) application and adjudication process, the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) sees a strong possibility that the refugee application process will need to be revised, possibly requiring additional information during the intake process. The current framework has been approved by OMB until August 2017; however, PRM requests to extend this framework until the end of fiscal year 2017, September 2017, due to the number of expected imminent changes to the USRAP.
