Remembering Vietnam Visitor Input Station
and Two Survey Questions

The Vietnam War had a profound effect on people who experienced it. Those who were born after the
war may have older relatives whose lives were changed by it. The Visitor Input station allows visitors to
use iPads to share their thoughts, personal experiences, feelings, and recollections about the war and to
contribute to a conversation stimulated by the exhibit.

Information Description
Input will be invited through two short, written prompts using the Survey Monkey app. The activity is
not a "survey" per se, as our intent is not to compile the results and analyze them, but to give visitors an
outlet and the opportunity to share with other visitors. No personal information will be collected. The
input/comments will be reviewed weekly and selections from the data will be projected on the exhibit
wall.
Only two questions will be asked of people who choose to interact with the kiosk – one quantitative and
one qualitative. We have three options for the qualitative question, which will be rotated monthly.

Interactive questions:
1. Quantitative Question: How effective do you think this exhibit was in addressing issues related
to the Vietnam War?
Scale: Very Effective, Effective, Neutral, Ineffective, and Very Ineffective.
2. Qualitative Question: [Only one asked. 250 character limit. To be rotated monthly from the
following list]:
a.

How has the Vietnam War touched your life of the life of someone you know?

b. What do you think younger generations should know about the Vietnam War?
c. What memories do you have of the Vietnam War?
Use of Information
A curated selection of these comments will be projected on a nearby wall. No further use of the
comments is planned. The quantitative information will inform NARA regarding the effectiveness of the
exhibit.
A label will be posted at the visitor input station informing visitors that NARA will project a selection of
visitor comments on the wall.
