This ICR is
approved consistent with an understanding that, because this
collection is not designed to be nationally representative, CDC
must always transparently articulate the limitations with respect
to generalizability. In addition, consistent with OMB’s Memorandum
M-13-13, CDC should be making de-identified data from FoodNet
collections available to the public in a form that can be
downloaded and analyzed. Subsequent clearances will be contingent
on meeting these terms of clearance. Finally, any changes made as a
result of the pilot study will need to be submitted as a
non-substantive change prior to fielding the full survey.

The FoodNet Population survey will be
conducted in 10 states over 2 years. The objectives are to provide
data to estimate the burden of acute diarrheal illness in the US
and to assess the frequency of exposures commonly associated with
foodborne infections. Information will be used to update burden
estimates and information hypothesis leading to faster outbreak
investigations. This Non-Substantive Change Request includes minor
changes made to adapt the generic instrument to each mode. Changes
made were to have language appropriate for the mode (such as a
respondent taking a self-administered survey rather than having the
survey administered by an interviewer) and to maintain consistency
as much as possible across the modes. Additional materials are
included for the Spanish translations of each document.
