ROME Updates

Changes to the online registration process to ensure continued security and to enhance the system.

Internet Screens:

  • Email collection moved up in the registration process. Pages: 3, 7

  • The customer’s second factor will be registered prior to selecting a username and password. Pages: 4, 5, 6

  • If the customer previously entered their email address, it will also be pre-populated or the customer will not need to enter it again later in the registration process to finish setting up the account. Pages: 9, 10


ROME Updates

Increase maximum password length per NIST 800-63-3 guidelines.

Internet Screens:

  • Text pertaining to the password field updated from “Contain 8-20 characters” to “Contain 8-64 characters”. Pages: 7, 9, 10



ROME Updates

To ensure continued security and to enhance the system.

Internet Screens:

  • When the user enters all nine digits of the Social Security Number (SSN), they are masked. Pages: 3, 8



RCS Updates

Changes to the RCS screens for a better customer experience.

RCS Screens:

  • The RCS screen displays the customer’s Name and DOB to prevent re-entry of those fields. Page: 14

  • Space for the RCS user to input the customers email address on this screen. Page: 14


RCS Updates

New screens to explain an error message.

RCS Screens:

  • The new message box explains an error within RCS. Pages: 16, 17, 18, 19



Privacy Act Updates

Updated language to the Privacy Act Statement

Internet and RCS Screens:

  • SSA’s Office of General Counsel made changes to the Privacy Act statement due to a systematic review of the language. Page: 22


ROME & RCS Updates

Updates to UEF and updates to add to the usability of screens. Corrections of grammar, punctuation, and added language. New screens for an error message.

Internet and RCS Screens:

  • Updated screens to enhance the usability of the page. Page: 1

  • Updated screens to correct grammar and/or punctuation and add language. Pages: 2, 5, 6, 13, 27, 28

  • Updates to adhere to User Experience Framework (UEF) standards. Pages: 11, 12, 15, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26
