The U.S. Business Response Survey (BRS) will be a one-time survey to collect and disseminate information related to how businesses have changed since the onset of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The JOLTS Supplemental Survey will be a one-time supplemental survey to March 2020 JOLTS sample members and will allow for specific business changes related to the coronavirus pandemic to be directly linked to JOLTS data. Through the BRS and JOLTS Supplement, the BLS will seek to identify changes to business operations, employment and workforce flexibilities and benefits that occurred from the onset of the coronavirus pandemic to when the survey is fielded.
The Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) requests an emergency 180-day approval of an emergency Information Collection Request for the U.S. Business Response Survey and JOLTS Supplemental Survey. This information must be collected prior to the time periods established under Part 1320 of the Paperwork Reduction Act and is essential to the mission of the BLS to assess how the impact of the outbreak of a novel coronavirus pandemic on has affected the U.S. economy. The coronavirus pandemic is an unanticipated event that is unprecedented in the sudden and dramatic manner in which it is impacting the economy. BLS has an urgent necessity to collect this information from the American public to assess the changes to the U.S. economy resulting from this pandemic.
