The National Violent Death Reporting
System (NVDRS) collects information for surveillance to monitor the
occurrence of violent deaths in the U.S. at the national, state,
and local levels. Data is used to understand magnitude, trends, and
characteristics of violent death and what factors protect people or
put them at risk for experiencing violence. This revision includes
1) updates to the web-based system to improve performance,
functionality, and accessibility, 2) new variables, 3) addition of
a School Associated Violent Death (SAVD) module to prepare for
discontinuation of OMB No. 0920-0604, and 4) addition of a Public
Safety Officer suicide module.
