Abstract: The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Region requests a revision of this currently approved information collection for the Annual Alaska Chinook Salmon Economic Data Report (Chinook Salmon EDR). The Chinook Salmon EDR evaluates the effectiveness of Chinook salmon bycatch management measures for the Bering Sea pollock fishery that were implemented under Amendment 91 to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area. This information collection would be revised due to an associated rule (RIN 0648-BL50) to implement Amendment 52 to the Fishery Management Plan for Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands King and Tanner Crabs and a regulatory amendment to revise regulations on EDR requirements for groundfish and crab fisheries off Alaska. This collection would be revised to remove the verification audit for the Compensated Transfer Report because this rule removes the authorization for third party data verification audits.

Short Statement: This collection is revised to remove the verification audit for the Compensated Transfer Report because the rule 0648-BL50 removes the authorization for third party data verification audits. Removing this audit would reduce the cost of the data collection program while maintaining the integrity of the data collection program. The certification statement on the EDR forms has been updated for consistency with other NMFS AKR forms.
